Kelby MacNayr presents the music of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers!

Drummer and band-leader Kelby MacNayr celebrates the spirit, sass and swing of one of the most successful small groups in jazz history. Kelby MacNayr was first drawn to the fire, dynamic and powerful sound of Art Blakey and came to discover a world of details, wisdom and artistry that set Art apart as one of the greatest accompanists, band-leaders and soloists in jazz. MacNayr has established himself as one of the most innovative and dynamic drummers/ band-leaders and composers on the West Coast performing as a leader and side-man across North America and beyond. For this special presentation, MacNayr has assembled an all-star, international quintet to celebrate one of his earliest and most profound influences, the iconic Art Blakey.

Born in 1919 Art Blakey played with a who's who of jazz greats of every era until his death in 1990. He was at the top of his field and his style embodied the drive, personality and spirit of jazz drumming.
